Benefits of Choosing a Tiled Pitched Roof

07/12/2016

We install pitched and flat roofs all over the East Anglia region. Choosing the right roof is often as much a matter of aesthetics as practicality. You might choose a pitched tiled roof for an outbuilding so that it matches your house, but there a lot of other benefits to this type of roofing. Here’s a few we’ve come up with:

  1. Traditional Look. The traditional English house has a pitched roof. Just take a look at any picture of a house drawn by a five-year-old. You can bet that the roof will have a pitch on it.
  2. Heavy weather. Pitched roofs are more popular in places that get heavy rain and snow. Our region has got off lightly in terms of snowfall these last few winters, but rain is a regular feature of the East Anglian weather. Rainwater naturally runs off the slope of a pitched roof and into the gutter. Snow will slide off before it builds up too much weight.
  3. Loft Space. One extra advantage of a pitched roof is that you will have extra storage space in the loft that is created underneath.
  4. Lifespan. As a general rule of thumb, pitched roofs last longer than flat roofs. All of our roofs come with long guarantees, however, so our flat roofs are also a very good option.
  5. Character. The character of a building should be reflected in its roof. Georgian houses for instance have a shallower pitch to their roofs than contemporary housing, giving them a relaxed but formal character that is typical of the era.
