Fibreglass Roofing

Fibreglass roofing has been about for a few years now. You will probably have heard the following claims when a sales advisor has been asked to provide a quote.
  • Will further value your house
  • Algae resistant
  • One piece - no joins
  • Will never deteriorate
  • They make boats out of it
  • Guaranteed a lifetime
Fibreglass is directly adhered to the deck allowing no room for thermal movement - This can in its worst case lead to lintels being pushed off doors, ceilings cracking and thermal knocking (you know the noise that your guttering makes when the sun catches it? Imagine that noise amplified over the size of your roof!).

It also traps moisture in the board leading to the very support for the fibreglass itself rotting out from underneath.

When you need the roof replaced again you will also have to replace the decking: both costly and unnecessary.

Replacing your roof is important and spending significantly more money on a product which does not live up to its claims is both costly and unnecessary. Remember - you are not buying a boat you are buying a roof!
