Avoid Accidents with Non-Slip Walkways for Your Roof

01/03/2017

Composite roofs on larger properties may be comprised of sections of roof that are pitched and tiled and other sections of flat roof. If you have access to your roof by way of a walkway or balcony, you should make sure that any section you are walking on has the appropriate non-slip surface to avoid accidents.

The Right Base

If you are going to be using your flat roof as a walkway, we recommend a flat roof comprised of Glass Reinforced Plastic. This will provide a solid base for your walkway. GRP roofs meet all the relevant building regulations for walkways and they have a very long lifespan. A lot of the earliest GRP roofs to be installed in the 1960s are still going strong today.

The Non-Slip Surface

When the wind and rain picks up, roofs can be slippery old places. We are the professionals and even we had to down tools for a few hours during Storm Doris last week. If you are going to be accessing your roof balcony, terrace or walkway regularly you are going to encounter it when it is wet. To minimise danger to you and anyone else accessing your roof you should install a proper non-slip walkway. These walkways provide you with extra grip in the aftermath of adverse conditions.

Arrange an Inspection

If you are concerned that your balcony, terrace or walkway may not be as safe as it could be, you can arrange for a free survey by one of engineers. Simply fill out our online form and we will contact you to arrange a time that is convenient for a member of our team to come and make an assessment. This is a free no-obligation inspection and we will provide you with a short report detailing what we think needs attention.
