Hobbies to Pursue on your Roof Terrace

11/09/2015
A roof terrace adds an extra dimension to your home, opening up a whole new space. It needn’t be reserved for the few days of the British summer when you can actually sunbathe. Why not use it to pursue one of these hobbies?
  • Stargazing
  • Birdwatching
  • Cloudspotting
  • Bonsai
Stargazing Astronomers like to joke that God put all the interesting stars in the Southern Hemisphere and all the astronomers in the Northern Hemisphere. Astronomers are not renowned for their sense of humour. Also there is plenty to see on a clear night. No need to invest in an expensive telescope either. A good pair of binoculars will reveal craters on the moon, Saturn’s ring and the moons of Jupiter. You should even be able to see the triple star system of Mizar (in the handle of the Plough and thus visible from the Northern Hemisphere all year round). Birdwatching Hang bird feeders from your property and garden to encourage these fascinating creatures into the sights of your binoculars. Get the kids interested by telling them birds are the last remaining dinosaurs. Cloudspotting Learning the difference between a cumulonimbus and an altostratus is not going to impress everyone. But in these fast times, when we so seldom get a break from a screen, watching the clouds roll by is a pleasingly meditative activity. Bonsai The Japanese art of growing miniature trees is an activity perfectly tailored to the roof terrace. And with the Great British climate, you probably won’t have to remember to water them. We can construct roof balconies and walkways on all our flat roofs. If you have an enquiry, give us a call on 01603 418818 or email: enquiries@roofsuk.co.uk. Roof terrace
