Protect Your Home with a Durable GRP Flat Roof

25/04/2017

Are you adding an extension to your home and considering what kind of flat roof to install? Perhaps an extension was built a long time ago and the roof now needs some attention? In either of these cases, we would advise people to consider Glass Reinforced Plastic (sometimes known as fibreglass) as an option. This strong, durable material will provide lasting protection for your home.

Strong and Lightweight

A GRP Balcony Roof

Glass Reinforced Plastic has many useful properties. It is an enormously strong material, so it is the perfect choice for a roofing material if you wish to use your flat roof as a terrace or balcony. The fact that it is lightweight is a blessed relief to those of us who install it, because GRP usually comes as a single moulded unit

Durable and Versatile

GRP was first used as a roofing material in the 1960s and some of those early installations are still in use today. It comes in a variety of colours and is highly suitable as a base for green roofing projects.

Fireproof and Waterproof

Fibreglass is fireproof. You can’t set fire to it. When it heats up it doesn’t go into a molten state like other plastics so, it won’t melt or drip when exposed to fire. GRP’s waterproof status is also celebrated – it’s the material used to build modern lightweight racing canoes and giant waterslides.

Economical

Considering GRP has all these desirable qualities, you may be amazed to find out that it is not the most expensive option for a flat roof.
