The Spectacle of Rooftop Film Clubs

14/02/2017

A cinema signRooftop entertainment is all the rage. Norwich saw its first rooftop restaurant open its doors last year and, in London, rooftop film clubs are all the rage. The spectacle of a visit to the movies is made all the more special by its location - high up on the roof.

Outdoor Cinema

The tradition of outdoor cinema is perhaps more associated with countries where the weather is a little more clement. India has its travelling cinemas that go from village to village and share the latest Bollywood releases. The United States used to have a great tradition of Drive-ins - enormous outdoor cinemas where you sat in your Chevy in front of a giant screen and listened to the soundtrack through the in-car radio. Rooftop film clubs started in the cities of America where rooftops offer an outdoor location far removed from the noise and pollution of traffic and crowds.

Rooftop Cinema in Britain

The Rooftop Film Club is a London-based operation that has screenings of classic and modern movies at rooftop venues all over the capital. Movie-lovers can sit in deckchairs ands enjoy spring and summer screenings high up above the city. Events are cancelled if extreme weather is expected, but a light shower is stoically repelled with a free poncho provided by the club.

Your Own Rooftop Cinema

If you would like to set up your own rooftop cinema then you’d better be certain that your roof can handle the weight of all the people and equipment. At RG Leverett, we have more than thirty years experience installing commercial roofs of different sizes for businesses throughout East Anglia. Turning an unused flat roof space into an outdoor cinema once a week during the summer could be a great money spinner for a business.

If you would like a team from RG Leverett Ltd to check the suitability of your roof, call us on 01603 418818 for a free no-obligation roof survey. Alternatively, you can fill out our booking form.
