What is the best way to choose a reputable roofing contractor?

What is the best way to choose a reputable roofing contractor?

If you're planning any kind of roofing work - whether it's a quick repair or a full roof replacement - one of the first (and most important) decisions you'll make is who to trust with the job. And with so many companies out there, all promising the same thing, it's not always easy to know where to start.

Here's what we'd recommend looking out for when choosing a roofing contractor - based on what we've learned from decades of working with homeowners across Norwich and Norfolk.

1. Look for real, local experience

There's no substitute for experience. A company that's been roofing for years is more likely to know what they're doing - and to have built a reputation they care about.

At RG Leverett, we've been roofing across Norfolk since 1986, and we're proud of the relationships we've built with local homeowners, builders, and businesses over the years.

2. Ask who's actually doing the work

Some firms use subcontractors to carry out most of their jobs. That's not necessarily a bad thing - but it can sometimes lead to inconsistencies in quality or communication.

We do things differently. Everyone who works on your roof is directly employed by us. That way, we can make sure everything's done to our standards - and yours.

3. Get a proper survey and a written quote

A reputable roofer will want to come out and take a proper look before giving you a quote. They should explain what needs doing (any why), and follow up with a clear, written quote - no vague estimates or pressure to make a quick decision.

We always offer a free roof survey and send out a detailed quotation within 72 hours. We'll also answer any questions you've got and won't rush you into anything.

4. Check their reviews and past work

Word of mouth goes a long way. Take the time to read reviews, ask friends or neighbours, and look at photos of previous projects if they're available. Most trustworthy roofing companies will be more than happy to show off their work - we certainly are.

5. Go with your gut

Sometimes it just comes down to how comfortable you feel. If a company takes time to explain things, answers your questions clearly, and treats you with respect - that's usually a good sign.

Roofing is a big investment, so it's worth finding someone you feel confident in from the very start.
