As 2025 draws to a close, we’ve been reflecting on just how much variety the year brought with it. Some weeks were spent carefully restoring heritage buildings for the National Trust; other weeks were on large car park sites for Huber Parking. And in between all of that, our teams were still out on domestic properties, helping homeowners improve and protect the roofs over their heads. It’s been full-on, but in a way that reminds us why we love this work.
One trend that really became obvious was the jump in skylight and sun tunnel installations. More people seem to be looking for ways to brighten their homes without major renovations. Flat roof projects also kept us extremely busy, especially where customers asked for insulation upgrades at the same time. The drive to improve energy efficiency - whether a tiled roof or a flat one - ran right through the year.
Challenges That Kept Us Thinking
Not everything was straightforward, of course. A couple of large slate roofing projects were on listed buildings, which meant operating under a bat mitigation licence with a bat ecologist on site. Jobs like that need meticulous care and plenty of coordination. We also had roofing work on schools that had to be completed during the summer holidays, with a hard deadline before the pupils returned.
And then there were the commercial sites. Warner Brothers Studios. Derby Hospital. Whipps Cross Hospital. Pendle Police Station. Working on busy, secure locations meant plenty of logistical planning - and far more travelling than we’re used to. To top it all off, the recent spell of very wet weather brought a sudden flood of new enquiries, keeping us on our toes right to the end of the year.
Projects That Really Show What We Can Do
Looking back, a few projects stand out for the craftsmanship involved.
- Felbrigg Hall, with its slate roof and heritage restrictions, is one we’re particularly proud of.
- The plain tile roof on Smee Lane in Plumstead highlighted the team’s skill in both traditional tiling and detailed leadwork.
- And at the other end of the spectrum, the flat roofs completed at the Harry Potter Studios were a great example of how well our commercial crews manage complex, large-scale installations.
Keeping Standards High Behind the Scenes
While the teams were out on sites, we were also busy maintaining our industry accreditations. We passed the NFRC Competent Roofer inspections again this year and retained both our CHAS and Constructionline Gold accreditations. There are important markers of quality, safety, and consistency, even if they don’t always make headlines.
Looking Ahead to 2026
Our plans for next year are simple: keep doing the best work we can, and keep offering the level of service people expect from us. If the demand for insulation upgrades, skylights and sun tunnels keeps growing, we’ll be ready. Whatever the year brings, the aim remains the same - work done properly, by a team that genuinely cares about the outcome.
A Few Winter Weather Reminders
With the colder months settling in, it’s worth paying attention to your roof during storms or strong winds. If you notice anything loose, damp or unusual, it’s best to get it checked before it develops into something more serious. The advice we shared previously about windy-weather roof care still applies.
Christmas Closing Dates and How to Reach Us
We’ll be taking a full break over Christmas this year so the team can rest after a demanding schedule. The office will be closed from 4.30pm on Friday 19th December until 9:00 on Monday 5th January 2026. If you need to get in touch while we’re away, email is the best way - messages will be responded to as soon as we’re back on 5th January.
Thanks to everyone who worked with us, recommended us, or trusted us with their home or building this year. Here’s to a positive and productive 2026!
