Danosa Polydan Flat Roof Installation - Swilland, Suffolk

One of our teams spent a few days in Swilland recently, working on a new extension for a homeowner there. It’s a quiet village with a name that supposedly traces back to its old links with pig farming, and from the top of the scaffolding you can see nothing but fields of winter barley in every direction. Nice view aside, we were there for one reason: to get a new flat roof in place and make sure it was done properly from the ground up.

The extension was ready for its roofing layers, so we started by putting down a vapour control layer. It’s not the sort of thing most people ever see once a roof is finished, but it plays a big part in keeping the structure healthy. Without it, moisture can work its way into the build-up and cause no end of trouble later on. With that sorted, we moved on to the insulation.

We installed 150mm insulation boards to bring the roof in line with current Building Regulations. It’s a decent thickness and gives the extension a solid boost in terms of thermal performance. Good insulation always pays off - the home stays warmer in winter, cooler in summer, and uses less energy overall. That’s something homeowners tend to appreciate once the bills arrive.

After the prep work came the main part of the job: fitting the Danosa Polydan bituminous system. It’s a product we’ve worked with many times, so we know what to expect from it, and more importantly, what it delivers. The system is tough, weatherproof and very reliable over the long term. Once everything is bonded and sealed, the whole roof becomes a single, durable surface that’s ready to take on whatever the Suffolk weather decides to throw at it.
